Class Contribution
My classes are geared toward preparing students for life after high school. No matter the profession, career or job, being able to work well with others; present information in a clear and concise manner; and discuss ideas/viewpoints, issues and concerns in a professional way, is crucial. Therefore, students will be required to actively participate in class activities and discussions in addition to completing individual and also group work. Students will also be required to present information by themselves and as part of a group in front of the class. Doing so will help students become confident, prepared public speakers, which is a vital skill they will need in the workplace. Speaking in front of others can cause students to feel anxious, which is understandable and totally normal. I want students to know that I will be there to assist them if needed and want to remind them that they will be speaking in front of their peers, who are also nervous!
Assignments
I do not assign homework every night. When an assignment is given in class, students are permitted time in-class to complete the work. Allowing in-class work time provides students an opportunity to ask me questions, seek additional clarification and obtain direct assistance, if needed. However, if the student does not complete the assignment in the time allotted, the assignment becomes homework; therefore, the student must finish the work outside of my classroom, such as in study hall or outside of normal school hours.
Missing Assignments
Students must complete classwork on time, making sure to meet all requirements. However, I understand that unexpected situations sometimes arise, so please communicate with me ASAP if there is something I need to know or take into consideration in regards to your work. Please note that a grade of zero will remain in the grade book (PowerSchool) until the missing assignment/coursework is completed - this includes work assigned during a student's absence. However, the student's grade will be adjusted when/if missing work is received and graded.
Grading Scale
Our classroom will follow the school's grading scale, which is linked HERE . If you have specific questions or concerns about your grade, please see me to discuss it ASAP. Do not wait until the end of the 9 weeks or semester to try and turn your grades around.
PowerSchool
Students are responsible for checking their own grades. Grades can be viewed by students and also parents and guardians 24/7. If you do not know your log in information, go to the high school office and request it. To access PowerSchool, click HERE
Tardiness
Students must be inside the classroom before the bell rings. When students arrive after the bell and do not have a pass, a tardy will be noted on the class attendance roster.
Cell Phones
Cell phones are not permitted to be used during instructional time.
Chromebooks
Students must come to class with a charged Chromebook every single day. Their Chromebook must have enough battery charge to last the entire class period.
Absences
It is solely the student's responsibility to request information about assignments, activities and exams missed due to being absent from school. When absent, the student should check Google Classroom for information. Please note that a grade of zero will remain in the grade book (PowerSchool) until the missing assignment/coursework is completed - this includes work assigned during a student's absence. A student's grade will be adjusted when/if missing work is received and graded.
